Memories are fragile and consist of malleable material, though they play an essential role in our lives. The politics of remembering or forgetting mold entire national narratives. Family secrets or stories revealed, inform individuals.

For me, as an immigrant, remembering became a form of resistance to my new surroundings, a natural reaction to the fear of losing myself, my identity, the way I see the world and the way I want to shape my future. The material of my memories is the material of my audiovisual production, and one of the interests of this research was to delineate how personal narratives, that were once confined to a private space, move in to the public realm, appearing in contemporary audiovisual art. This particularly, was vital for establishing a correlation between my interests and those of the works, which comparable to my audiovisual material, aim to give an account of a violent past.
